So you’ve started a business but you’re having trouble finding the right work life balance.

I completely understand because I have been where you are.

I was the one doing the laundry, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, taking the kid’s to their activities, making time for my family and husband…it all gets to be a little much when you have the stress of building a business too.

When we are wanting to believe that we can do all the things AND build/run a business, we have to be careful of getting burned out.

Here are some tips to help

  • Have a work space just for you

I truly believe that having your own space to do your work helps so much. It gets you in the right mindset for what you need to be doing.

This is the room or space that will have all your brainstorming ideas to grow your business, goals that you will have written down and hung where you can always see it.

Whether it is a desk in the corner of a room, or a room set up as an office, it will make a difference in the way you work.

  • Prioritize your time

Time blocking! If you have not heard of time blocking, you are missing out! I swear by this method because it really helps to get done what you need to get done.

You can pretty much block time for everything in your life too.

If you don’t know how to time block, I’ll give you a little run down:

First, get a piece of paper or open a word document and write out everything you have on your mind that needs to get done. Pretty much like a brain dump, just write/type it all out.

While you are at it, grab your calendar and write down any appointments or events that are coming up and add them to your list.

Next, mark which tasks or events need to be done ASAP or in the future. This is where you are going to put these tasks in your scheduler.

I use Trello and Google Calendar for all of my projects/tasks and things that are time sensitive.

  •  Get moving!

It is so important for your body and your mind to get at least 30 minutes of exercise every. single. day. I like to workout first things in the morning, mostly because it clears my head and I feel more prepared to handle the day.

This also helps me to be a better business owner, mother and wife. I have less stress overall and just feel better about taking care of myself.

Even if it’s just taking regular stretching breaks at your desk or going for a walk during your lunch, make the time to get your body moving!

  • Don’t forget to eat!

I know that this really should be a given but it is so easy to get caught up in a project or doing all the things that it really is easy to forget this. EAT!

Nurishing your body with healthy whole foods will make you feel great and prevents you from falling ill during those darn cold and flu months.

  • Be strict with your work hours

If I could go back to when I first started my business, I would have worked so much harder at this than I did. I spent so many hours doing all the things I thought was necessary to build my business, even if it meant I was neglecting my family.

I have learned just how important it is to figure out the hours you want to work and stick to it! Make sure that it’s on your website, your Facebook page, put it in your welcome packet, and repeat it over and over to clients or customers.

You will burn yourself out very, very fast if you are on a 24/7 on call type of business.

  • Outsource help

I think this is the best tip because as much as we want to be able to do it all, it feels amazing when we can outsource it. We all have our strengths and weaknesses but please don’t waste your time trying to figure out how to build a website when you have no idea where to start.

You may not be to the point in your business where you can hire someone, like a Virtual Assistant to help you, but you can find other people to do small things.

One thing I have learned is when I put money into my business, my business grows in the result. I could not and did not want to spend time building a website, so I found one I absoluetly loved and purchased a theme.

Even something as small as setting up a Facebook or Pinterest account, I would rather have it done, and done right by someone else so that I can do what I need to for my new clients/customers.

To Wrap it up

I hope some of these tips were helpful and that you can use them in your business ventures. Please leave a comment with some ways that have helped you balance your work and life.
